For those sensitive to sugar, you could reduce the amount a bit. But keep in mind that it is the sugar that makes the drink absorbable to the cells.
NOTE: Commercial hydration drinks (Powerade, Gatorade, etc.) generally list high fructose corn syrup as the primary ingredient (after water). Another reason to make your own recipe.
