The Coronavirus - What We Can Do

Along with our annual flu, we are hearing a great deal about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). It has surfaced in the US and is expected to occur in all states.

What should we do now in our homes, schools and workplaces to stay healthy?

Basic Hygiene is essential and is something we can control.  Be strict about following these suggestions to prevent transmission:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. This is especially important when you have been out. Stock home and office with lots of soap.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you are in a pinch. Carry one in your pocket, purse, auto.  Buy large bottles of replacement sanitizer.
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, this is how the flu and COVID-19 is transmitted.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.  Purchase disinfectant sprays and wipes that will kill 99.9% of germs.

This is a good reminder that our family preparedness plans should include:

Make purchases of products you need as soon as you can as shortages or unavailability can occur.  Expect price increases on products.

Risk of COVID-19 is associated with recent to travel to China or other locations with confirmed community spread. It is not associated with any particular group of people, nor any ethnicities.
